Privacy
This notice explains information handled by the Mac Emergency Broadcast apps, storage and deletion, and device permissions. You can choose direct connections through Tailscale or the provided Cloudflare broadcast service. Direct-mode audio, recordings, text, credentials, and purchase information are not sent to the cloud broadcast service.
Broadcast audio and confirmation recordings
The apps process saved broadcast audio, jingles, audio names, full message text, and on-site recordings captured by your Mac’s microphone for use on your registered devices. Direct mode stores audio, recordings, metadata, commands, and state on your own Mac and uses Tailscale between iPhone and Mac. The paired iPhone relays Watch commands and recordings. In cloud mode, audio files are stored in the provided service’s Cloudflare R2 and metadata, commands, and state in its service datastore. Device credentials restrict access to each service account. Files used for creation, previews, and playback are also saved or cached on devices.
Text-to-speech uses built-in Japanese system voices. The app does not send your text to an external TTS service. It does not perform transcription or AI comparison.
Confirmation recording runs from the start of a broadcast, including its jingle, until shortly after playback ends. It pauses when the broadcast pauses and does not run continuously. Recordings may include nearby voices and environmental sound.
Device permissions
During Mac setup, the app explains recording and requests standard system microphone permission. If access is denied, recording failure and broadcast results are handled separately. Standard macOS privacy indicators remain visible.
The iPhone camera scans the Mac’s pairing QR code. The app does not save or upload camera images. You may enter the verification code manually instead.
Registration, devices, and purchases
Service account IDs, device IDs and names, Mac pairing, and verified purchase identifiers separate each user’s audio, commands, and recordings. Device credentials are stored in Keychain and checked against hashes on the service. Your Apple Account email address is not used as proof of purchase.
Annual subscription restoration sends Apple-signed purchase information to your selected service endpoint to verify its validity period. Verification runs on your own Mac in direct mode, or on the provided service in cloud mode. The service stores a hash derived from the purchase identifier and its association with the service account. Apple processes payment; the app does not obtain your card number.
Direct mode does not use backup push. In cloud mode, Apple device tokens and short synchronization hints are used when backup push is configured. Push payloads contain no audio, audio names, or broadcast text. Tailscale carries direct-mode communication and Apple provides purchases. The Cloudflare broadcast service and backup push are used only for cloud connections.
Diagnostics and connection information
Diagnostics include connection and command events, playback, recording upload, recovery, timestamps, broadcast and command IDs, stages, HTTP status, numeric OS errors, and retries. Controller devices and the receiving Mac each retain the latest 200 diagnostic events per account. Cloud mode applies the same limit to diagnostics on the provided service. Older entries are replaced by count; there is no fixed-day deletion.
Diagnostic logs exclude credentials, private keys, signed purchase data, audio, audio names, broadcast text, server URLs, and full exception descriptions. Sharing diagnostics creates structured text only when you choose that action. Direct-mode diagnostics stay on your devices; cloud-mode diagnostics are also stored on the service. Diagnostics you choose to share for support are used to respond to your inquiry. Cloud connection source information is also used for abuse prevention and rate limiting.
There are no ads, behavioral tracking, or advertising-related disclosure to third parties. No advertising or analytics SDKs are included in the apps.
Storage and deletion
- Audio, jingles, and recordings
- There is no automatic deletion after a fixed number of days. “Latest 7” limits the recording list; it does not erase older recordings or Mac originals.
- Account deletion
- Use iPhone Settings → Delete Account to delete your service account, audio, recordings, and Mac and Watch registrations. If a response is unknown, the app offers a check or retry rather than reporting success. After confirmation from the receiving Mac or provided cloud service, the iPhone cleans up data and credentials associated with that account.
- Data remaining on devices
- Uninstalling an app or replacing the Mac does not delete data stored on your receiving Mac or provided cloud service. The iPhone cannot erase originals or caches remaining on the Mac or Watch. Other accounts and unregistered drafts are not included in account deletion.
- Minimal deletion records
- The service retains minimal identifiers, credential hashes, and deletion state to support retries and prevent delayed operations from recreating deleted data. These records contain no audio or broadcast text. Account deletion does not cancel or refund a subscription. Stop automatic renewal in Apple subscription management; restore a valid subscription to register again.
This public website
The product, support, and privacy pages are delivered through Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes network information such as IP addresses needed to deliver these pages. Cloudflare Web Analytics aggregates visits and display-performance information for these public pages. This measures public-page use, not in-app broadcast audio, confirmation recordings, message content, or app controls. The same domain also provides the broadcast service API. Audio, recordings, and purchase information sent by the apps are handled by service APIs with device authentication and purchase verification.
